Audition Requirements:

  • Play a short solo piece of their choice that best demonstrates their level of achievement, (no accompanist or memorization is necessary)

  • Play the appropriate EXCERPTS for 2019-20 season

  • Sight Read

  • Play a major or relative harmonic minor scale in any key, (up to 5 sharps or flats)

1. How do I apply?

Download all the Audition Packet Files (top of this page). 

Fill out & mail the application with your check to the GYO address:

GYO -Application, PO Box 4401, Glendale, CA 91222-0401

2. How Much Does It Cost?

The Audition Fee is $30 and is non-refundable.

Annual Tuition costs $850 per student, payable at first rehearsal. 
Payment plans can be arranged with the orchestra manager as needed.

3. Are there any other costs or requirements?

Parents are required to volunteer with any aspect of the orchestra program they choose.
If their schedules cannot accommodate this requirement, they can make a donation of $100(due at 1st rehearsal) to the GYO instead.
All parents are also expected to help in some way with the Silent Auctions prior to each concert.

4. If I Cannot Afford It, What Can I Do?

There are some scholarships available. Please check the box on the application form that asks if you are interested in a scholarship.
Scholarships are awarded on a need basis and occasionally on a merit basis.
Both parent's current Federal and State tax returns are required and due with the application on or before the first rehearsal.
